What is TAC 3 GUN?
This discipline is an “off-shoot” of the typical Multi-Gun genre. It does not adhere to a run & gun mentality. T3G’s focus is on technique, accuracy and the use of cover. Therefore, shooters will be required to fire from a variety of positions using both their dominant and support side. A Rifle, Pistol and Shotgun are required for this match.
Distances can range from CQB to 300 meters. Each stage has a 180 second par time and we use IDPA targets and scoring with slight modifications. Accuracy & speed are stressed, but not at the sacrifice of safety. The use of cover is mandatory. All ammunition must be carried in a vest, pouch, pocket etc. during the course of fire. Strict attention to the scenario is required or a procedural penalty will be assessed. Targets must be engaged in tactical order.
We want everyone to participate in a safe and friendly environment. We compete against one another and against ourselves. There aren’t any awards or prizes. Individuals with physical limitations should inform the DD or RO.
How do I get started in Tac 3 Gun?
NEW SHOOTERS Must Contact the Match Director BEFORE participating. Experienced 3 gun shooters can ONLY obtain a waiver from the Discipline Director (DD). Contact the DD for information on the waiver, monthly match and how to participate.
Shooters will need eye and ear protection along with one each of the following firearms:
- A modern magazine fed rifle (AR 15, AK 47, FN FAL etc.) in .223, 5.45, 7.62 x 39, .30 or .308 with at least 3 high capacity magazines. Pistol caliber rifles including .22 are welcome. Armor piercing, incendiary or other projectile types are prohibited. If you are not sure about your ammo, please ask before using. Either a red dot, variable optic or both are permitted. No aiming laser devices allowed. Slings are highly recommended since they are incorporated into some stages. Lever action/tube fed rifles are not permitted.
- Acceptable pistols calibers are: 9mm, 10mm, .22, .38, .40 & .45. You will need at least 30 rounds per stage. Three high cap mags or plenty of single stack magazines are highly recommended. No laser aiming device allowed. A holster that securely retains the weapon is mandatory. Inside the pant holsters are prohibited unless they are made of kydex or similar rigid material.
- Semi – auto or pump shotguns in 12 & 20 gauge are typically used. Single shot, over/under or side-by-side shotguns are prohibited. Due to the distances we engage targets, chokes are not needed. In fact, the use of a choke may harm your weapon if it cannot accommodate slugs. A high capacity shotgun is advantageous, but stages often start with limited capacities and you will switch between birdshot and slugs.

There is an Optics Division. This means anyone running more than one optic ie; optic on rifle and pistol or optic on rifle pistol and shotgun will fall into this new division.
Please note, this discipline is not suited for individuals who are not well acquainted and proficient with their preferred weapon system(s). Children under the age of sixteen (16) may not participate. Only the DD can waive this rule. Youth 16 and over may compete once they have:
- Demonstrated a high level of competency to the DD
- Are accompanied by a parent or guardian
