In 1998 a senior manager at Progress Energy, Joe Hall, was transferred from his post in Georgia to a temporary position in Orlando to help in the take-over of Florida Power.  He moved his family to Orlando, and he and his spouse Creaestia joined the Club, and their four sons joined the Junior Program.  The elder boys had done a little BB-Gun shooting in Georgia, but all four got into serious shooting with the CFR&PC Junior Program and then with the FSSA Junior League.  At that time Al Dart was the Head Coach of the CFR&PC Junior Program, and Mick and Margaret Langfield were running the FSSA Junior League and serving as Assistant Coaches in the Club program.

In about 2001 Joe was transferred back to Georgia, having successfully completed his assignment in Florida.  The boys continued to shoot in Georgia.  The family tells us they still regard their time at CFR&PC as having set the groundwork for their shooting careers.  All four are still actively involved in the sport:

  • James shot for Jacksonville State University (Alabama) earning 8 All American Awards in the NCAA and is currently working as Head of Junior Shooting Programs at the Civilian Marksmanship Program.  He is mostly shooting Air Pistol (and came 14th in the Air Pistol Trials for the 2012 Olympic Team).
  • Joseph also shot for Jacksonville State University and is currently shooting rifle for the Army Marksmanship Unit.  He hopes to make a run for the Olympic Smallbore team at Nationals this summer.
  • Jonathan is at Columbus State University (Georgia) majoring in Business Administration.  He was the 2010 NCAA Air Rifle Champion.
  • Jacob is at a Community College in Georgia.  He has (we hope temporarily) suspended his shooting activities while he deals with some health issues but is actively reloading his own pistol ammo.

The USA has two positions in Men’s Air Rifle at the 2012 Olympics in London.  The trials for the US Team for the 2012 Olympics Air Rifle Team were held during the week of February 25.  The trials consisted of a multi-day match with an Olympic Final at the end.  With two positions available, the top two contestants in that trial get the positions on the Olympic Team.

Jonathan Hall came second in the trials, and will go to the 2012 Olympics in London to shoot for the USA team.
